[edit]The island is really a shoal-- I've never seen more of it than barely awash at low water. The article conflates the island with the daybeacon, which is the subject of the NRHP listing. It might be better if the article were moved to "Nix's Mate Daybeacon", which is the NRHP name, since the NRHP listing is the only reason the shoal is notable enough to have a WP article.
The 1834 date is the one provided by NRIS and our usual practice is to use those facts in the NRHP infobox. Rowlett says 1805, which may be a better date, but unless we can find a good cite, I'm inclined to stick with NRIS. . . Jim - Jameslwoodward (talk to me • contribs) 23:47, 8 May 2011 (UTC)
